Review
Toofan Review: A good hearted Parsi gym owner in the introduces the legendary Muhammad Ali’s videos to Aziz. ‘Boxing Aur bhaigiri mein yahi farak hai. Boxing is a sport that needs technique, discipline and patience, not just strength,’ he clarifies. Aziz is recommended to a widely respected boxing coach Nana Prabhu (Paresh Rawal) to recognize his potential and the expert training he deserves. The Dadar veteran is wary of a Muslim guy from Dongri with notorious background but agrees to take him under his wing. He even bestows him with the title ‘Toofaan’ (unstoppable storm) but this near perfect coach-protege relationship takes an ugly turn when things get personal.
Forbidden love, casual dogmatism, communal harmony, creating of a boxer and redemption of a shamed athlet Toofaan tries to tread many ways quickly. In doing thus, the fictional tale loosely sounds like a miscellanea of many films you'll have seen before… Ghulam, Sultan, Mukkabaaz. Given the actual fact that Toofaan sees Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra reuniting along with his solid Bhaag Milkha Bhaag team — Farhan Akhtar and Ravi Shankar Ehsaan-Loy, one expects nothing but fireworks. What you get may be a run of the mill story told in Associate in Nursing over-simplistic manner. a number of empty punches, a number of solid blows, ton of evading the opponent and eventually exhausting out the ambience, Toofaan is Associate in Nursing odd mixture of succumbing to and destroying the stereotypes. Love lies at the center of the story however boxing drives the narrative. The juggling doesn’t appear organic and feels heaps like one interrupting the opposite.
You always have a selection, believes Ananya. To uproot yourself from the globe you were born into and upgrade, isn’t easy. The film’s protagonist will it while not batting a watch and you hope to follow his journey, inner conflict and boxing talent. the main focus but, shifts to a standard religious story, social group scrutiny, parental outrage Associate in Nursingd boxing as an extended highlight.
The film’s strongest parts revolve around its modest and realistic setting, the coach-protégé relationship and confrontation on communal discourse. surprisingly these scenes square measure inhibit and emotions restrained so as to stay the story moving. The story provides an impact that it desires to withdraw into problems like spiritual tolerance, fellow feeling and prejudice however settles on simply scratching the surface.
After Bandra boy Ranveer Singh rapped his manner into your heart through the gullies of Dharavi in valley Boy, you've got Farhan Akhtar doing a little Phoda phodi in Dongri in Toofaan. whereas Ranveer still encompasses a thought attractiveness, Farhan’s thinking urban persona are often overwhelming. The actor-writer-director takes his time however manages to mould himself into a personality that isn’t remotely near to his sensibility. As so much as his physical transformation thinks about, Bhaag Milkha Bhaag has already well-tried his sincerity and determination to appear the half. It’s everything or nothing for Farhan and he sticks to the set up this point around still. His play with celebrated Indian boxers like Neeraj Goyat, Gaganpreet Sharma is fascinating.
Paresh Rawal provides the film its finest moments by simply shooting a look at his extremely misunderstood boxer. He, together with Dr Mohan Agashe show you the way smart actors will elevate a customary script. Mrunal Thakur essays her role in Associate in Nursing unspectacular, earnest manner. What conjointly stands out is characters not wallowing in self-pity once in crisis or deceit to be one thing they're not. Aziz unabashedly admits, “Boxing mein jo Foda fodi hai, Woh Kareeb hai apne.”
Overall, Toofaan might not be the cyclone you'll have expected it to be however it undoubtedly has its thundering moments.
